It taps into a massive database full of information gleaned from special telescopes and compares current data with what scientists expect based on theories surrounding the universe’s origin. Researchers Xin Li and Kaige Shi developed a novel vaccuum suction unit capable of gripping rough, uneven surfaces. Until recently, if you wanted to suction-cup your way up a wall it’d have to be made of glass, slick marble, or some other unbroken surface. Standard vaccuum devices rely on an unbroken seal between the atmosphere and the gadget’s inner-vaccuum in order to maintain suction. The team of scientists, led by Katelyn Allers of Bucknell University, used techniques previously employed to measure wind speeds on the solar system’s giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn, to conduct the study, which is documented in a paper published in Science.
