Researchers from the University of Melbourne gave 40 recruiters real-life resumés for jobs at UniBank, which funded the study. The resumés were for roles as a data analyst, finance officer, and recruitment officer, which Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows are respectively male-dominated, gender-balanced, and female-dominated positions. Half of the recruitment panel was given resumés with the candidate’s stated gender. The other half was given the exact same resumés, but with traditionally female names and male ones interchanged....

According to a statement from Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s Head of Security Policy the fake news pages were linked to state-owned telcoms companies, namely Myanmar’s Mytel and Vietnam’s Viettel. In total, Facebook removed 13 accounts and 10 pages that violated its rules. The pages used memes and “news” about other companies to discredit them in the eyes of consumers. Gleicher said the accounts sneakily tried throw shade at other telcom companies: Facebook was able to trace the posts to both the telcom providers and a Vietnamese PR firm....

To improve the country’s charging network, the government announced today a new £500 million plan to help the UK market reach 300,000 public EV chargepoints by 2030. To put the numbers into perspective, that’s a tenfold increase on the chargers’ existing number of 28,375 — or an annual addition of 37,500 units over the next eight years. Hopefully, the plan will address two of the most pressing issues regarding the UK’s charging network: limited charger numbers and uneven geographical distribution....

While the company already has its BMWi range of electric vehicles, the BMW iX3 will be the first vehicle from its core lineup to go all-electric and move away from combustion engines as the mainstream choice. In an announcement published earlier today, BMW said that it will produce the iX3 in China ready for its first deliveries by the end of the year.
