The so-called Ioniq 5 robotaxi is based on the homonymous vehicle by Hyundai, but enhanced with Motional’s driverless tech. Last week, a bill was introduced in the state, that would prevent direct-to-consumer car brands selling in Michigan without a dealer as an intermediary, Bloomberg reports. Earlier this year, Tesla managed to find a way around Michigan’s antiquated legislation without acquiring a dealer license. Instead, by it came to an agreement to use official loopholes, which include registering vehicles in another state and shipping them in, and performing services under the guide of a wholly-owned subsidiary in the state....

The company said it already provides a cover against coronavirus-themed attacks to customers using Microsoft Threat Protection (MTP) through products like Microsoft Defender. However, now it’s open-sourcing knowledge for people who might not be protected by MTP. As a part of the announcement, Microsoft has released new indicators to detect these attacks. For its enterprise customers using Azure Sentinel, a cloud-based security analysis tool for companies, the Seattle-based firm has provided a guided notebook that security teams use to protect themselves against attacks....

I was able to demo an early prototype of the HoloLens 2 a few months ago and it was immediately obvious how much the hardware has improved. For one, the field of view is much larger, now covering a 52-degree window rather than 34. It still only takes up a portion of your field of view, but it’s significantly more useful. For another, the HoloLens 2 can respond to a wide variety of gestures, not just the finnicky index finger taps of old....

What should we make of this? It is too optimistic to think that Meta’s culture of personal data mining and manipulation might finally be coming to an end? Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has long been criticized for its data privacy and policy practices. As far back as 2007, only three years after its founding, Zuckerberg had to apologize for informing users’ friends of their purchases. In 2011, the company agreed with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that it would undergo independent audits every other year in the face of charges that it was sharing people’s private information with third-party apps....

OnlyFans today announced (via Bloomberg) that it will bar creators from posting sexually explicit content starting in October. While some nude photos and videos will still be allowed, the move comes off as misguided at best and an affront to the sex workers who were crucial to building the platform at worst. Whether or not you use the app, OnlyFans is synonymous with porn. Even if we know there are other types of content on the app, OnlyFans has thrived on being a relatively welcoming platform for people who post sexually explicit content....

Thiel’s also reportedly sent a memo to employees indicating they shouldn’t expect the company to IPO within “the next three years.” That doesn’t necessarily mean it will IPO then, just that whatever business plan the company’s executives are working off now has changed from what appeared to be a sure bet for at least a $20 billion initial offering to… holding off for now.
