We’re in an age of specialization, so it’s no wonder that even our coolest tech innovations are now being rethought and reengineered to better suit the needs of a variety of niche customer segments. First, there were drones. Now, there are drones for real estate and construction, drones for agriculture uses, and even drones for Hollywood filmmakers. And where we were once satisfied by smartwatches, we now have smartwatches designed for health, smartwatches built for the military, and now, even smartwatches for musicians....

From surveillance to aerial photography to filmmaking, there’s no shortage of uses for a nimble drone. But while some models are packed with loads of specializations and other high-end bells and whistles that can run hundreds or even thousands of dollars, other current models are built for ultimate reliability. And especially for a novice pilot just getting comfortable behind a drone controller, some of these baseline drones still carry all the functionality most pilots are looking for, while remaining easy to use and capable of surviving unfortunate learning moments behind the stick....

Earlier in July, the authorities had banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok and WeChat after a skirmish between the armies of two nations at the border. Apart from PUBG and PUBG lite, the government has banned VPN for TikTok, Alipay, Sina News, Dual Space – Multiple Accounts & App Cloner, LivU, and ShareSave by Xiaomi. Right now, most of these apps are available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store....

The company also launched the ability to create cross-app groups on both apps today. This means you can create a group on Instagram DMs with your Messenger contacts, and vice versa. There will also be group typing indicators to show you who’s tying the next message. This makes it easier to include some folks who might not be using one of the platforms. Facebook is also introducing polls in Instagram DM, so you can decide on the next restaurant you can visit or the next movie you’re going to watch....

Speaking on CNN’s State of Union show last night, Nick Clegg, Facebook’s VP of global affairs, said the nudge feature will warn teens looking at harmful content repeatedly: — State of the Union (@CNNSotu) October 10, 2021 Clegg also said that Instagram is also working on new parental controls, so adults can supervise the content teens are looking at. He added that the company will also add a ‘take a break’ feature to encourage teens to not use Instagram for a while....

The Taiwan-based company, formally known as Hon Hai Precision, will produce ventilators designed by the US-based medical device company, Medtronic. The medical device company’s CEO, Omar Ishrak, told CNBC about this partnership today and said the Taiwanese company’s Wisconson plant will be used for this initiative. He also added that the company has open-sourced the design of its PB-560 ventilator, and it plans to ramp up production in its own factories to reach the goal of producing 1,000 units Foxconn confirmed the development in a statement, but didn’t mention when and where it’ll start producing ventilators....

CryptoKit will be made available in the upcoming iOS13 update, as spotted by The Block. The dev kit will officially be announced in a WWDC session called “Cryptography and Your Apps” later today. The Windows-maker announced it’s launching a bounty program specifically for its gaming console. To be eligible for a reward, researchers must identify a flaw in the Xbox Live networks and services which can be reproduced in the “latest, fully patched” version of the platform. “Bounties will be awarded at Microsoft’s discretion based on the severity and impact of the vulnerability and the quality of the submission [sic],” the announcement reads....
