That title goes to French carmaker Renault, and its affordable electric car the Zoe, according to figures reported by Bloomberg. Over the past six months, the Tesla Model 3 has been the top selling EV in a number of European countries like Iceland, Germany, and Great Britain, far surpassing any competition. Despite this, the Zoé has managed to sell more units in total....

Musk’s plans to restructure Twitter began with laying off top executives, before notifications were emailed to around half of the Twitter global workforce that they were being made redundant or that their jobs were at risk. In a memo to staff, Musk defended the firings as “an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path” and “unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s success moving forward.” The widely reported memo also informed employees that they would find out their fate by email....

We’re allowing US-based political candidates to work with creators to run this content, provided the political candidates are authorized and the creators disclose any paid partnerships through our branded content tools....

According to Facebook, the network was linked to Russia’s most notorious troll farm: the Internet Research Agency (IRA). The company says the network primarily sought to amplify a purportedly independent left-wing news site called PeaceData that was run by fake editors. These personas then recruited unwitting freelance journalists to write English and Arabic-language articles about topics of legitimate concern, such as racial justice, environmental issues, and President Trump’s policies. The data was analyzed by Graphika, a US government-linked social media analytics firm whose partners include DARPA and the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence....

The social network said it will use this data to “helps us learn which apps people value and how they’re used” and understand the community to improve its fleet of apps. It also likely hopes this is transparent enough to avoid getting the company in trouble. Last year, a slew of documents released by the UK parliament revealed that Facebook used its now-defunct VPN app, Onavo, to track competitors through data it collected from users....

According to the Financial Times, it seems that some of Facebook‘s early backers have been spooked by increasing regulatory scrutiny. It’s being reported that at least three of Facebook‘s supporters have privately discussed ways in which to distance themselves from the project. When it was first announced, the Libra Association – the independent body responsible for overseeing the ‘cryptocurrency’ – boasted 28 members, which included several heavyweights from the financial sector (Visa, Mastercard), and technology industry (Spotify, Uber), alongside Calibra (a Facebook subsidiary)....

You might therefore reasonably believe that published papers are quite reliable and meet high-quality standards. You might expect small mistakes that got overlooked during peer review, but no major blunders. It’s science, after all! You’d be wrong in expecting this, though. The phone looks pretty much identical to the leaks we’ve so far, though those have typically been marketing renders and the like. That said, we do at least get to see the bottom of the phone, which reveals the expected USB-C port (and no headphone jack). Things get a bit interesting after that. A poorly concealed user manual reveals that the button on the bottom of the phone is a fingerprint reader and power button combo....

Stellantis is the latest automaker to explore the capabilities of Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) — the tech that allows EVs to recharge as they travel over specially equipped, dedicated road lanes. What’s Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer? DWPT is basically a system of coils placed under the asphalt. They emit an electromagnetic field that’s picked up by vehicles driving over them and, in turn, converted into electricity by a special receiver....

While these features are nice, Firefox 86 also brings total cookie protection, and that’s very important for your privacy. Firefox 86’s new Total Cookie Protection prevents one site from reading another site’s cookies containing your data. As this graphic explains, the browser creates a separate cookie jar for each site. So it can still store your preferences while protecting your data. It’s important to note that Total Cookie Protection is not turned on by default in your standard mode....
